What is the colon and what does it do?

The colon, or large intestine, is a hollow muscular “ tube like” organ, 5 to 9 feet long and can stretch from 1 inch to 12 inches in diameter when impacted with fecal matter. It forms the end portion of the digestive tract, and moves waste by involuntary wavelike contractions called peristalsis. The colon’s primary functions are to absorb water and electrolytes, to synthesize valuable nutrients (such as vitamins B & K), and to prepare and store fecal waste prior to elimination. The beneficial flora in the colon also help protect the body from infection and disease. It is believed that 60-70% of the immune tissue resides in the colon and intestines.

What is colon hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy is the gentle infusion of water into the colon to cleanse the colon of accumulated waste material, gas, mucous, undigested food and toxins. It helps improve muscle tone of the colon, facilitating the natural peristaltic action necessary for efficient removal of waste and absorption of nutrients. Toxic wastes can be the root cause of a wide variety of different health concerns.

How is a colon hydrotherapy treatment given?

A colon hydrotherapy treatment is given in a private room with a trained and state licensed colon female hydrotherapist, who fully appreciates the sensitivity of the procedure, thereby helping the client feel at ease with the process. The client lies comfortably on a special table, fully draped during the course of the treatment. A speculum is inserted into the rectum lined with surgical lube, so it doesn't hurt. It just feels a little funny until the warm water starts trickling in. Then it's a very soothing feel!

Is colon therapy embarrassing?

No. After a small tube is inserted into the rectum, water and waste are carried through the tube in a gentle, pressurized manner. No mess, no fuss, no odor—in fact, it’s a very relaxing experience. Except for the insertion of the tube, you are completely covered during the entire procedure.

Is the procedure painful?

Most of the process is mild and gentle leaving you with a wonderfully light and empty feeling afterwards. Rarely, but on occasion, colon muscles will contract suddenly and expel a considerable amount of liquid and waste into the rectum. The resulting contraction may feel like cramping or gas pressure in the rectum.

How long does it take to receive a colon hydrotherapy treatment?

It takes 35 to 45 minutes for your first appointment due to paperwork. and each session after that will take 25 to 35 minutes depending on how your colon reacts. The sessions after that vary according to the individual’s needs and response, but usually last from 25 to 35 minutes.

Will one cleansing completely empty the colon?

No. Often the waste is very hard and deeply lodged in the colon, therefore a series of treatments is often required to sufficiently soften and loosen it. If you would like to do a mild colon cleanse it is recommended to begin by booking 2 treatments back to back (on consecutive days). Often the colon is dry and dehydrated and will absorb much of the water during the first treatment. With the second session the fecal plaque is presoaked, often making elimination of the waste more efficient during the second treatment. Most people will need more than two sessions. Following the 2nd treatment, your therapist will work with you to assess your progress and to help you determine a treatment plan which accommodates your needs and objectives.

Why is colon health so important?

The colon is a major organ of elimination of toxins and wastes, along with the skin, kidneys, and lungs,. If bowel movements are irregular, the waste products and toxins can build up. These accumulated poisons are often re-absorbed into the blood stream, where they may be carried to other tissues and organs in the body, compromising our health.

What are some of the problems associated with lack of colon health or colon aoutotoxicity?

Autointoxication is the process where the body poisons itself on its own toxic juices. If the colon is toxic, the body can be toxic, this can contribute to a variety of different problems that can be associated with colon toxicity. Some possible signs of colon toxicity can include: bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, IBS, colitis, fatigue, depression, poor memory, weakened immune system, skin problems, lower back pain, excess weight, bad breath, coated tongue and body odor.

Will I lose weight?

Although colon hydrotherapy should not be undertaken solely as a weight loss technique, most clients do report the benefit of some weight loss due to ridding the body of excess poundage in the form of accumulated waste. When the colon is clean and able to function efficiently, overall digestion, absorption of nutrients and metabolism also improves.

Is colon hydrotherapy habit forming or can a person become dependent on it?

Many people find just the opposite to be true. Your Colon Hydrotherapist can provide recommendations regarding the frequency of sessions, as well as helpful suggestions to assist with improved bowel function outside of colon hydrotherapy.

Can colon therapy wash away all the bacteria, even the good?

Most people, due to years of improper eating habits, lack of exercise, and poor elimination have an acidic colon. The friendly bacteria can only live in an alkaline environment, whereas the harmful ones thrive in an acidic environment. So, it’s helpful to flush away the bacteria in an acidic colon.
